A man Driven into a Well
( A Koan Called )

* A man driven by a wild elephant escaped into a well and stuck to a vine in the middle of the well. When he looked around the inside of the well, he found 4 poisonous snakes opening mouths on the bottom and 2 rats, white and black, gnawed the vine. At the moment, a drop of honey fell into his mouth drop by drop from a beehive on the vine. He forgot the dangerous situation and was enjoying the taste of the honey. This is a figurative story alerting us to our situation of life.

* Many years ago in Korea, a monk said to the public, "What would you do in this situatuon ?"

* There were many answers presenting one's own stage to this question like "It is only a dream last night" or "Ouch, Ouch,Ouch" or "When did I get into the well ?"

A monk said, "sweet !"
